Meet the Teacher
Mr. Jeffrey Mills
While I was a first-grade student in Mrs. Ruth Booher's class at Rockhill Elementary, I knew that I wanted to be an elementary teacher. After progressing through the educational system at Southern Huntingdon as an honors graduate and the class salutatorian of 1981, I attained my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Elementary Education in 1985 from Shippensburg University. Seven years later, I earned a Masters Degree from Shippensburg University in early Childhood Education. I am proud to say that I have been a substitute teacher and a full-time teacher in my home school district.
I have had the privilege to teach at all of the schools within the Southern Huntingdon County School District: Spring Farms Elementary, Trough Creek Valley Elementary, Shade Gap Elementary, Rockhill Elementary, and now at the Southern Huntingdon County High School/Middle School. During these years within this district, I have worked with some of the most professional and highly-experienced educators in the field of education. That same quality of teachers continues to exist in this district, and I am proud to be a part of this system and to be able to work with and learn from those educators.
As I continue my present teaching assignment teaching sixth-grade English and the world of words and social studies and current events relative and meaningful to this generation of learners.
The 2020-2021 school year marks my 33rd year of teaching. I am proud of that fact and still look forward to work each day.
Outside of school, I enjoy listening to music, reading and within the past several years I have gained a passion for "old movies" from the 1930s-1950s. It is a pleasure to watch my two nephews, three nieces, two great-nephews, and one great-niece enjoy life and be a part of their lives. I do my best to be a spectator at as many of their events that I can possibly attend. Spending quality time with family and the best of friends is always a highlight of each day.
My faith is a strong part of my life. I attend church at McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. I play the piano for the worship service. This has become an important part of my religious life.
I definitely like to support my favorite sports teams when their seasons are in play. My favorite sports teams are the Atlanta Braves (MLB) and the Las Vegas Raiders (NFL). This list could not be complete without including all of the high school sports teams that matter most: Southern Huntingdon Rockets!
